Chasin's Double-Double Gives Ithaca 89-59 win Over Wells

AURORA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men's basketball team surrendered a season-low 59 points as the Bombers cruised to a 30-point win, 89-59, over the Wells Express on Tuesday night in the Farenthold Athletic Wing.  With the win, Ithaca improves to 5-2 overall while Wells dips to 2-5 on the season.

Sophomore Marc Chasin posted his second double-double of the season in the win with 27 points on 11-of-16 shooting to go along with a career-high 15 rebounds.  Sam Bevan finished with 14 points and eight assists while Peter Ezema, the reigning Empire 8 and ECAC Rookie of the Week, posted his third double-double with 14 points and 11 boards.  Carlin Champion provided a spark off the bench, adding a season-high 14 points after burying three from beyond the arc.

As a team, Ithaca shot the ball well, connecting on over 51 percent of its attempts while holding the Express to just 23-of-68 (.333) shooting from the floor.  The Bombers out-rebounded Wells, 48-36, and scored nearly half of their points in the paint with 40.

Tied at 16-16 with 9:42 to go in the first half, Ithaca would begin to pull away after using a 14-3 run capped by a lay-up from Ezema to take a 30-19 lead.  From there, Ithaca would knock down three 3-pointers while holding the Express to just five field goals over the final six minutes of the opening stanza to build a 12-point lead, 45-33, heading into halftime.

Coming out of the break, the Bombers extended their lead to 17 points after Chasin drained one of his three 3-pointers to put the visitors up 50-33.

Wells would cut the lead to 13 points, 55-42, with five minutes gone by in the second, but it was all Ithaca from there as the Bombers' defense held the Express to just four points over the final 10 minutes of play while using a 14-4 run to seal the win, 89-59.

Ithaca will have a quick turnaround as the Bombers are set to host Union College at 7 p.m. on Thursday in Ben Light Gymnasium.
