GAMBIER, Ohio -- Senior J.J. Woodson (Oakwood Village, Ohio/Bedford) posted his first career double-double as the Hiram College men's basketball team recorded its first NCAC win by a 88-78 score at Kenyon on Saturday.

The Terriers stand at 4-2 on the season and 1-1 in the NCAC, while the Lords drop to 2-4, 1-1.

Woodson finished the game with 25 points, 11 rebounds, four assists and three steals. His 25 points are a new season-high and the 11 rebounds are a career-best.

Sophomore Paul Ortiz (Canton, Ohio/McKinley Senior) added 17 points. Senior Ray Gaston(Warren, Ohio/John F. Kennedy) added a season-best 13 points off the bench and senior Austen Rekolt (Salem, Ohio/West Branch) chipped in with a season-high 12 points.

A 3-pointer by Woodson gave Hiram the early 8-3 lead.

The Terriers would continue to hold the lead for the half and a 3-pointer by sophomore Ryan Greenwood (Fairport Harbor, Ohio/Fairport Harding) gave the Terriers a 27-20 lead with just over eight minutes left in the half.

The Lords would tie the game at 33-33, but Hiram was able to regain control and took a 43-38 lead into halftime.

A five point spurt capped off by a Rekolt trey allowed the Terriers to build a 51-42 advantage.

The Lords would battle back and cut Hiram's lead to 55-50, but the Terriers scored eight of the next nine points to build a 63-51 lead with 12:18 remaining in the game.

Hiram used a 6-0 run to build a 69-55 lead with 9:49 left and never looked back.

The Terriers finished 30-of-73 (41.1 percent) from the field and went 10-of-27 (37.0 percent) in 3-pointers, while Kenyon was 27-of-58 (46.6 percent) in shooting and just 2-of-10 (20.0 percent) from beyond the arc.

Kenyon outrebounded the Terriers 45-40.

Hiram forced 22 Lord turnovers and scored 26 points off of them, while Kenyon forced 11 Terrier turnovers but scored just five points. Hiram also outscored the Lords 16-2 in fastbreak points.

The Terriers will play next on December 12, as they host No. 6-ranked Ohio Wesleyan in a NCAC battle at 2 p.m.
