ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, NY – Hartwick used an 11-2 run over a three and a half minute span in the second half to turn a slim 61-60 lead into a 10-point margin and closed out the Bard College Raptors 84-75 on Thursday night at Stevenson Athletic Center in Annandale-on-Hudson, NY. The win moves the Hawks to 4-3 on the season.
Trevor Norton (Mullica Hill, NJ/Ursinus College) and Joey Lufkin (Argyle, NY/Argyle) combined for 53 points on the night to lead the charge. Norton netted a game-high 28 points, including a 12-for-12 performance from the free-throw line, to go along with eight rebounds. Lufkin was 10-of-15 from the floor with four three-pointers for 25 points. Brandon LaForest (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes) chipped in with 13 points on the night.
The Hawks took a 41-39 lead into the locker room at halftime. Norton (15), Lufkin (11), and LaForest (11) did almost all of the Hartwick damage offensively as they combined for 37 of the team's 41 points.
The Raptors would lead for over half of the first 20 minutes of action. They would hit eight three-pointers in the half and took their biggest lead 26-20, before the Hawks would gain the upper hand in the late stages on a Lufkin three.
In the second half, the Hawks scored the first seven points for a nine-point advantage, 48-39. The Raptors would rally to tie the game at 54 and they took a brief lead, 57-56, on a three with 11:11 remaining. Norton answered at the other end with a trey of his own and Hartwick never trailed again.
'Wick held a one-point lead with under ten minutes to go, but a three and a layup from Lufkin, followed by a LaForest layup and two straight buckets from Matt Wilson (Shelton, CT/Franklin & Marshall College) and the Hawks were in front, 72-62 with 5:56 left.
Bard cut the deficit to five with 3:01 showing on the clock, only to have Lufkin nail his fourth three-pointer. Norton went 6-for-6 from the line in a 30-second span to put the game away.
The Hawks made 50% (29-for-58) from the floor as a team. They dominated the glass in the game, 42-22.
Wilson ended the game with eight points and a game-high 15 rebounds. Jake Sinicki (Endicott, NY/Maine Endwell) added eight points and seven boards.
DeVahnte Mosley and Tim Quashie led Bard with 15 points apiece. Emmanuel Rainey contributed 14 points.
Hartwick is off until later this month when it competes in the Miami Holiday Slam Tournament in Florida. The Hawks open with North Central on Friday, December 18 at 5 p.m.
