Green Scores a Season-High 25 Points in, 78-60, Loss to Elms

Providence, R.I.--Rhode Island College sophomore guard Chris Green (Taunton, MA) poured in a game-high 25 points as the men's basketball team fell to Elms, 78-60, at The Murray Center on Tuesday evening.

 

The Anchormen (1-5) opened a nine point advantage in the first half, capped by a made jumper by junior forward Alex Cruz (East Hartford, CT) at the 10:45 mark. The Blazers (2-4) battled back, finally taking the lead on a steal and made layup by junior guard Symon Smith (Oklahoma City, OK) at the 7:18 mark. The teams traded baskets, but Elms began to pull away late, with a last second tip-in by junior forward Conny Ihearahu (Largo, MD) putting the visitors up by nine, 39-30, at halftime.

 

The Blazers continued to buckle down, using a full court press to extend their advantage to 18 points, following a jumper by senior guard Jerry Buchanon (Windsor, CT) at the 9:17 mark of the second. The lead ballooned to as large as 20, but a late jumper by RIC freshman guard Jimmy Fritzson (Sharon, MA) gave the game its 78-60 final outcome.

 

The Anchormen shot 39.3 percent (22-for-56) from the field and 30.8 percent (8-for-26) from downtown as a team. After opening the game cold, the Blazers found their rhythm, shooting 50.8 percent (30-for-59) from the field and a scorching 58.3 percent (7-for-12) from three-point range as a team.

 

Green led the Anchormen with 25 points on 50 percent (5-for-10) shooting from three-point land, with Fritzson chipping in 16 points, five rebounds and four assists. Buchanon led the Blazers with 21 points. Smith added 15 to go along with five assists.

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host Lasell on Thursday, Dec. 3 (7:30 p.m.).
