Miller, Tigers Cruise Past Sarah Lawrence

LOS ANGELES — Jay Miller scored a game-high 23 points, Joe Compagno got hot off of the bench in the first half and the Occidental men's basketball team cruised past Sarah Lawrence for its fourth win in a row, 83-52 at Rush Gym on Sunday.

Miller was 7 of 12 from the field on mostly mid range jump shots. He also had six rebounds, two assists, no turnovers and was 9 of 10 from the 3-point line.

Compagno helped Oxy jump out to a 46-22 halftime lead by going 4 of 4 from the field in the first 20 minutes, including 3 of 3 from beyond the arc. He finished with 11 points and five rebounds. 

Andrew Johnson, a 2014-15 All-SCIAC selection, scored with ease for the Tigers, going 10 of 16 for 22 points. When he drew double teams he showed off his passing skills, dishing out four assists.

As a group, the Tigers had 17 assists to just six turnovers and shot 50 percent from the field. 

Oxy point guard Kory Hamane kept his hot shooting from deep alive, going 3 of 5 from downtown for 11 points. Through five games, Hamane is shooting 52 percent from three.

Oxy big man Andrew Garrison led the game with nine rebounds and added four points, three assists and two blocks.

Graham Gilleran gave the Gryphons life in the second half with three of his five 3-pointers to cut the lead to less than 20. He finished with a team-high 19 points and Paker Hagmeier added eight points and six rebounds.

Season Impact: Oxy improves to 4-1 on the season.

Sarah Lawrence falls to 2-3.

Next Game: The Tigers return to the court on Wednesday against Future College at 7 p.m. at Rush Gym.
