The Lead: Roanoke scored the second most points in school history in a 126-86 victory over Penn-State New Kensington Saturday in the first day of the 2015 Thanksgiving Weekend Classic in Salem.
How it Happened
- RC scored the first nine points of the game, jumping out to a 9-0 edge after a pair of free-throws from John Fitchett.
- PSU battled back cutting the RC lead to 12-10 before the Maroons scored 11 of the next 14 points to open up a 23-14 edge.
- After the Nittany Lions closed the gap to 37-31 with 5:27 to play in the opening half, RC finished the first stanza on a 30-14 run capped by a John Caldwellbuzzer-beater to make it 67-45 at the break.
- The Maroons opened the second-half on a 12-2 run to put the game away and would see its lead balloon to as many as 44 points down the stretch.
- Joey Miller and Fitchett each scored 18 points apiece for RC, while Caldwell finished with 16 points and Carter Wright chipped in with 14.
- The 126 points is second most in a game for RC in its history. The Maroons scored 128 points in an NCAA Tournament win over Shenandoah on Feb. 29, 1996.
- RC knocked down 14 three-pointers and shot 52.4% from the floor, making 44-of-84 shots from the floor. PSU was 33-of-76 (43.4%) from the field and just 6-of-20 from beyond the three-point arc.
- Dorian Broadwater led three PSU players in double-digits with with 18 points.
