BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The William Paterson men's basketball team (3-1) suffered its first loss of the season, 80-66, at Brooklyn (4-0) Nov. 21.
Senior guard Terik Bridgeman (Harlem, N.Y./Nia Prep) led all players with 27 points, adding a team-best 10 rebounds. Senior guard Bright Mensah (Hackensack, N.J./Hackensack) scored 12 tallies, and junior guard Zach Frick (Sparta, N.J./Sparta) added 10.
The Pioneers jumped out to a 17-8 lead less than six minutes into the contest, but a 15-8 run to end the half allowed the Bulldogs to carry a 37-32 edge into the break.
A Mensah tip-in pulled WP to within three at 48-45 with 14:12 remaining in the contest, however Brooklyn answered by scoring 14 of the next 19 points to build a double-digit advantage (62-50, 7:58).
Senior guard/forward Egzon Gionbalaj collected 16 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists for the Bulldogs.
William Paterson will start conference play Tuesday, Nov. 24, at home against Ramapo at 8:00 p.m.
