The Millikin men's basketball team defeated Westminster College 65-56 to open the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) vs. St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Challenge played at Greenville College in Greenville, Illinois on November 20.
Millikin led the entire game building a 35-21 advantage at halftime. The Big Blue pushed the lead to as much as 18 points in the second half and held off a late rally from the Bluejays.
Millikin shot 42 percent from the field while holding Westminster to 39 percent. Millikin grabbed 40 rebounds compared to the Bluejays 34.
Millikin's top scorer was TJ Sims with 16 points. Tommy Pilackas had 15 points and tied for a team in high in rebounds with eight along with Elijah Kinmon. TJ Griffin scored nine points for Millikin and is now at 992 in his career needing just eight points to break 1,000.
Tanner Cochran led Westminster with 16 points.
Millikin is now 1-2 on the season and Westminster goes to 0-1. The Big Blue will play again on Saturday in the CCIW vs. SLIAC Challenge taking on the host Greenville Panthers at 5 p.m.
