LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- The Covenant men's basketball team turned a two-point halftime deficit into an 80-61 victory over visiting Sewanee on Tuesday night inside Barnes PE Center.

The victory keeps Covenant perfect on the year at 2-0 overall. It's the first time since 2011-12 that the Scots have been victorious in their first two games of a season. Sewanee drops to 1-1 overall.

Berto Dryden scored 11 of his 14 points in the second half, while TJ Cox led all scorers with 16 points. Both Dryden and Cox dished out four assists. Connor Sears came off the bench to score 11 points with five rebounds. Chris Boyd and Patjo Twagirayezu each had nine points. Will Portlockadded four points and a game-high seven rebounds.

A seesaw battle in the first half saw Sewanee grab a 35-33 lead into the halftime break. But in the second half, Covenant dominated the contest.

A Sears layup with 15:30 left in the second half gave Covenant a 48-41 lead. After Sewanee cut the Scots' lead to six at 54-48, Covenant held the visiting Tigers scoreless over the next six minutes and 45 seconds as it built a 68-48 lead in the process. The 14-0 scoring run was highlighted by a pair of 3-pointers from Dryden along with treys from Cox and Matt den Dulk.

In the second half alone, Covenant shot 68.2 percent (15-of-22) from the field with five 3-pointers. Sewanee managed just 30.3 percent in the half.

Sewanee was led by Seth Brown and Keshonn Carter's 12 points. Leading scorer, and reigning SAA Player of the Week, Jorden Williams was limited to seven points on 3-of-14 shooting. Sewanee shot 38.6 percent (22-of-57) for the game and 4-of-20 from behind the arc.

Covenant made 10 3-pointers as a team for a second straight game going 10-for-22 on the night. The Scots shot 54 percent (27-of-50) and had 14 assists.
