Walton-Moss Repeats as NABC National Player of the Year

More news about: Cabrini

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – For the second consecutive season, Cabrini men's basketball student-athlete Aaron Walton-Moss has been honored as the nation's best Division III basketball player, as the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) recently named him its National Player of the Year.

The senior was also named Mid-Atlantic Player of the Year and a First Team All-American by the coaches' organization.

Walton-Moss becomes just the eighth player in the 40 year history of the award to be named Player of the Year twice, joining familiar two-time winners like Virginia's Ralph Sampson and Duke's Jason Williams.

"This was such a big accomplishment for me that I am a bit speechless," said Walton-Moss. "I am truly blessed and I thank God for ability to play the game.

"So many people have been a part of my success at Cabrini, faculty, staff, students and most importantly, Coaches McDonald and Kahn, the assistants coaches and my teammates, who have helped me grow as a player, a student and a person."

Walton-Moss will receive the award in Indianapolis on Sunday at the annual AT&T NABC Guardians of the Game Awards Show as part of the NCAA Final Four and NABC Coaches Convention festivities.  He will join
Division I Player of the Year Frank Kaminsky from Wisconsin and Division II Player of the Year Mitch McCarron from Metropolitan State as the event's honorees.

Walton-Moss, the three-time Colonial States Athletic Conference Player of the Year, had another season for the ages.  The senior ranked in the top 25 in nine NCAA Statistical categories, including an astounding nine triple doubles and 9.58 defensive rebounds per game.

The senior led the nation with 8.8 assists, ranked fifth 11.7 rebounds and 24th with 20.6 points per game and was the only player in the country to rank in the top 25 in points, rebounds and assists.

"I couldn't be more proud of and happier for Aaron on this tremendous accomplishment!" head coach Tim McDonald commented.  "Aaron had one of the best statistical seasons that I have ever seen at any level and that is a testimony to his hard work and dedication."

"Winning the NABC Player of the Year is such a great honor and to be able to repeat as the Player of the Year shows just how special a player Aaron really is.  This award wraps up Aaron's career here at Cabrini and I am not sure we will ever see a player of his caliber here ever again.  He is a special young man and basketball player and has a bright future ahead of him."

Walton-Moss also ranked third in the country with 210 assists and 12th with 281 rebounds.  He also recorded 21 double-doubles in 27 games, fourth most in Division III.

Walton-Moss recorded nine of the 21 triple-doubles in Division III.  He was one of just three players in Divisions I, II and III to recorded multiple triple doubles, joining UNC Pembroke's Quamian Rose and Kyle Collinsworth from BYU, who combined for eight.

The senior recently also completed one of the most decorated careers in program history.  Walton-Moss closed his career as Cabrini's all-time leader with 1,641 points and 906 rebounds, while his 495 career assists rank third.

The NABC Player of the Year Award culminates the most decorated individual season in program history.  Walton-Moss was also named National Player of the Year by DIII News and Basketball Times and earned First Team All-American accolades from D3hoops.com.  He was also named Regional Player of the Year by and First Team All-Region by the NABC and D3hoops.com.

Walton-Moss led the Cavaliers to a 17-10 mark in 2014-15 and the team's seventh consecutive appearance in the CSAC championship game.
