The Baruch College Bearcats shot 51 percent to defeat the Beavers of CCNY, 72-55, in a CUNYAC ARMY ROTC Championship quarterfinal round win on Sunday afternoon in the ARC Arena.

The Bearcats controlled the boards with a 40-28 advantage and used a game-busting 17-2 run midway through the second half to turn a small lead of 42-35 into a 22 point advantage (59-37) with under eight minutes remaining. That was enough to advance to the semifinals on Wednesday night at CCNY's Nat Holman Gymnasium to play the fifth-seed York College at 6:00 pm.

Granville Gittens earned Player of the Game honors with 21 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the field. He also grabbed seven rebounds and notched two steals to keep the Bearcats a perfect 13-0 at home this season in the ARC Arena.

Chimaechi Ekekeugbor had 15 points, while Edward Roscigno and Raymond De La Cruz chipped in 11 points each in the playoff win.

"At this time of the year, you want to move on, survive, and advance to the next round," said Head Coach John Alesi. "Fortunately, we were able to do that today. York (next opponent) obviously gave us our first conference loss, but at this time of the year, you have to beat good teams in order to move on. Whether it is York, Lehman or Brooklyn at this point, we just have to come out prepared to play the game against anybody."

Khalil Hamer led CCNY with 15 points in the loss that ends their season with an 8-17 record. David Solano contributed 14 points.
