Pipers Go Deep To Beat Auggies

More news about: Hamline

The Hamline men's basketball team put on quite the show for their fans in their final home game. The Pipers snowed Augsburg under with 15 3-pointers -- tying a school record -- in winning their final Hutton Arena game of the season, 86-75. Dior Ford made his last game at Hutton one to remember with four treys and 16 points. He was tied for top scoring honors by soph Dylan See Rockers (3), who nailed three long distance shots on his own. Austin Johnson also had three treys in a 13-point night. Zach Smith continued his excellent freshman adventure with a pair of long ones and 10 points.

The Pipers came out smoking hot. See-Rockers and Ford both went deep right off the bat for a 6-0 HU advantage in the first two minutes of play. The lead ballooned from there and Hamline went into the locker room with a 43-23 advantage. HU shot 57 per cent from the field in the half, including a school record for most three-pointers in a half (9). Meanwhile, a tenacious defense held the Auggies to just 26 per cent from the field.

The lead mushroomed to 26 in the second half before the Auggies found their footing. HU head coach Jim Hayes emptied his bench in the late going, getting 15 players into the fray.

The Pipers finished the game shooting 52 per cent from the field (30-57). They also blocked seven shots with Ford leading the way with three. The 15 3-pointers tied the mark set on February 12, 2011 in a win over Macalester.  It marked the first time since the 2010-11 season Hamline had swept the season series from Augsburg. The Pipers won, 69-60, in Minneapolis last month.

With the win, Hamline improved to 11-13 on the season, 8-11 in the MIAC. They will finish the season Saturday at St. Thomas. Game time is 3:00 p.m.
