SCHENECTADY, NY -- William Hython had another double-double with 18 points and a game best 14 rebounds as the Union College men's basketball team defeated Clarkson University, 75-70 Friday night at the Viniar Athletic Center. The Golden Knights, entering the night tied for first in the Liberty League, fell to 10-3 in league play and 17-5 overall. Union improved to 10-12 overall and 4-9 in the league.

Htyhon, the league's leading rebounder, recorded his 13th double-double of the season. Kevin Weckworth scored 15 points with three assists and Terell Winney added 14 points and four assists for the Dutchmen. Wade McNamara scored nine and Union shot 46% with a 39-34 rebouding advantage in the victory.

Clarkson was led by Dylan Hodwnes' game highs of 22 points and seven assists, and Felix Abongo scored 17 with eight boards. John Coleman scored 14 points and joined Derek Hart with seven rebounds each for the Golden Knights, who shot 43% for the contest.

Union had a 39-32 halftime lead, outscoring the visitors 20-10 in the paint. The Dutchmen led by as many as 13 after a three pointer by Weckworth made it 53-40 four minutes into the second half. Union led 59-48 with 11:16 left after a Hython free throw, but Clarkson went on a 12-4 run over the next 3:18 to pull to within three at 63-60 after an Abongo free throw. Union got the lead up to nine at 71-62 after a Deshon Burgess three with 5:41 to play in the second half, but back came the Golden Knights with seven straight points as a Hodownes three with 3:06 left made it a 71-69 game. Whelpley made a free throw for a 72-69 lead with 2:21 left. Union later got a rebound and a layup by Hython for a 74-69 lead with 1:06 to play, but Charles McAllister made the second of two free throws with 54 seconds left and Clarkson trailed 74-70. Weckworth's free throw with 15 seconds left provided the final.

The Dutchmen are at Skidmore Saturday at 4 p.m.
