Lynchburg Wins Battle of Hill City 64-55 over Randolph

LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College men's basketball team showed promising signs of what could be in store for the rest of the season in Wednesday's 64-55 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) victory over Randolph College.

The Hornets shot the ball well in the first half with multiple players getting in the scoring column. LC finished the half shooting over 40 percent to take a commanding 36-22 lead into the break.

Not to be outdone was the Hornet defense and the pressure Hilliary Scott's crew is known for held Randolph to just 1-for-9 shooting from behind the arc in the half.

The closest Randolph got in the first half was at the 11:30 mark when a Lucas Smith jumper in the paint tied the contest up 15-15. The WildCats would not score another basket though until two minutes remained, a span of over nine minutes.

Lynchburg used that combination of defense and cold shooting to go on a 17-3 run to take control of the contest. Lyndon White had six points during the run while Austen Arnold contributed five as Daniel Rowe and Sammy Hooper added a trifecta each.

Randolph outscored the Hornets by seven in the second half, but could not overcome the first half deficit.

The Hornet defense controlled the top three-pointer shooter in the league for the second straight game as the WildCats' Seth Wimbish entered Wednesday's action shooting 53.1% from beyond the arc. In two games against LC, he has a combined four points while going 0-for-8 from deep.

Randolph (11-11/5-8 ODAC) was led in scoring by Zach Desgain's 16 points to go along with 13 points and six boards from Gordon Rogo.

Lynchburg was paced by Arnold's 20 points, the fourth time in the past five games he has reached that plateau. White finished with 13 points, four rebounds and four assists while Rowe ended with 10 points and five caroms.

Lynchburg (13-9/6-7) returns to Turner Gymnasium to face Shenandoah University (3-18/2-10) this Saturday at 4 p.m. It will be Senior Day with Rionn Pradia being recognized in pregame festivities.
