BUFFALO, NY—Buffalo State (13-7/9-5) had five players score in double figures and shot a season-best 62 percent from the field en route to an 80-76 victory over visiting Oswego (13-7/9-4) in a SUNYAC game this afternoon at the Sports Arena.

Roderick Epps (Uniondale/Uniondale) led Buffalo State with 20 points and became just the third player in school history to score 1,400 career points, running his total to 1,416, behind only Jake Simmons (2,079) and former NBA All-Star Randy Smith (1,712).   

Jordan Glover (Buffalo/St. Joe's) added 16 points, while Lovell Smith (Buffalo/McKinley) scored 15 on 7 of 9 shooting from the field.  Chris Thompson (Far Rockaway/Channel View) chipped in 13 points, and Chris Cartwright (Binghamton/Binghamton) scored 11 points to go with nine assists.

Oswego jumped out to an early 19-11 lead, but the Bengals responded with an 18-4 run and went ahead by as many as nine before taking a 45-42 lead into the intermission.  The second half followed a similar script with the Lakers scoring the first 10 points to go up 52-45.  The Bengals tied the score three times, but did not reclaim the lead until Epps hit a pair of free throws with 4:41 remaining.

After Oswego evened the score at 76-76 with just over a minute remaining, Cartwright gave the Bengals a lead they would not relinquish on a driving layup with 39 seconds left.  The Lakers threw the ball into the backcourt on the ensuing possession, but the Bengals missed the front end of a one-and-one, giving Oswego new life.  The Lakers could not take advantage, however, as Epps stole the inbound and then hit a pair of free throws to give Buffalo State a four-point lead with just eight seconds left.  Oswego missed a quick 3-point attempt and the Bengals secured the rebound and ran out the clock. 

The Bengals' hot shooting extended beyond the arc, as they hit 8 of 16 from 3-point range.  Oswego shot 41 percent for the game and was 6 of 18 from long range.  Oswego committed just eight turnovers, compared to 16 by the Bengals, but the two late miscues proved to be the difference.  The Bengals used just seven players in the game, with Epps, Thompson and Cartwright playing more than 34 minutes each.

Buffalo State will play host to Geneseo for another league matchup on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
