Brooklyn Tops Hunter, 85-71

New York, NY --- The Brooklyn College Men's Basketball team never trailed in its 85-71 victory over the Hawks of Hunter College on Friday night at the Hunter Sportsplex in City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) action, as the Bulldogs led from the opening tip until the final buzzer.

With the win, BC improves to 18-5 overall on the year and more importantly 10-4 in the CUNYAC, as the Bulldogs remain in the hunt for a top-four seed and home court advantage in the quarterfinals round of the upcoming conference championship.

The win also gives Brooklyn the regular season sweep over the Hawks, as the Bulldogs defeated Hunter, 75-58, back on January 14th at the West Quad Center.

Hunter falls to 8-14 overall on the season and 5-9 in conference play.

Junior Egzon Gjonbalaj led all scorers with 27 points (19 in the second half), to go along with seven rebounds, five assists, two blocks and two steals. Classmate Jamel Gist added 16 points, while senior Jai Kellman finished with 11 points. Junior Lorenzo Williams pulled down 10 rebounds, to go with six points. Seniors Enees Nikovic and Steven Diaz each netted eight points apiece coming off the bench.

For the game, BC shot 50.8% (32-for-63) from the field, including 40% (8-for-20) from three. The Bulldogs also shot 59.1% (13-for-22) from the free throw line.

The visitors also held the rebounding edge, out-rebounding Hunter, 41-34, that led to a 23-15 advantage in second chance points for Brooklyn.

Hunter had four players score in double figures, led by Jarrell Antley's team-high 13 points, to go with five assists. Eric Kippins finished with a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, while Lester Anim and Matt Franks each added 11 points apiece coming off the bench. Anim also recorded seven rebounds. Gerard Carty chipped in with nine points and six assists, while Bryan Silvera posted eight points and eight rebounds.

For the game, the Hawks shot 44.1% (30-for-68) from the field, while shooting just 23.5% (4-for-17) from beyond the arc. Hunter also shot 77.8% (7-for-9) from the line.

Brooklyn returns to action next Friday, February 13th, as the Bulldogs will welcome borough and conference rival Medgar Evers College to the West Quad Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:15 pm. BC will look to sweep its fourth conference opponent this season, as BC defeated Medgar Evers, 80-61, back on December 9th. The Bulldogs will also look to remain perfect on their home court, as Brooklyn is 9-0 at the West Quad Center this season.
