THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – The Maritime men's basketball team fell at home to the Mount St. Vincent Dolphins on Tuesday evening at the Riesenberg Hall Gymnasium by the score of 81-65.

Maritime was led by freshman John Liccese (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman), who had 15 points, while sophomore Isaiah Hayes(Jamaica, N.Y./Queens Teaching) added nine and pulled down a team-leading eight rebounds to go along with eight points and a team-best three blocks. Senior T'Vaughn Gibson (Freeport, Bahamas/Sunland Baptist Academy) also contributed with 12 points, while classmate Sean Corley (Harlem, N.Y./Thurgood Marshall Academy) collected seven points, and freshman Patrick MacDonald(Buffalo, N.Y./Canisius) ended the night with eight.

Mount St. Vincent jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead, but MacDonald responded to even up the game at a pair on a layup from Corley. The Dolphins then went on a 10-0 run and opened up an advantage by the same margin. The lead got up to 15 points at 26-11 before the Privateers started rallying themselves.

Sophomore Brendon Halligan (Durham, N.Y./Cairo-Durham) got the run going with a layup, Liccese then answered with a long-range shot following a defensive rebound on the previous possession by Mount St. Vincent. MacDonald drained a layup, and then connected on a pair from the line to pull the Privateers back within six. After a free throw made by the Dolphins, Liccese stormed down the court and sank a layup.

On the next Maritime possession with the team down 27-24, Halligan stepped back for a three-point shot and knocked it down to tie the contest at 27. The Dolphins then closed out the half soundly and took an 11-point advantage into the locker room for halftime.

After the break, the lead sweltered to 17 for Mount St. Vincent as the Dolphins took a 53-36 lead with 14:08 left in regulation. The Privateers were able to trim the deficit back down to six at 57-51 after Hayes completed an old-fashioned three-point play, but the Dolphins answered and reassumed their 17-point lead.

The lead made it to its highest point at 81-63 with 37 seconds left in regulation, but Liccese sank a pair of shots from the line to cap off the scoring at 81-65 to close out the game.
