Thomas More Goes Downtown to Defeat Grove City, 81-65

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – The Thomas More College men's basketball team shot 60 percent from behind the three-point arc tonight (Wednesday, January 28, 2015) as it defeated Grove City College, 81-65, in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.

With the win, the Saints improve to 13-6 overall and 8-2 in the PAC.  With the loss, the Wolverines fall to 8-11 overall and 3-7 in the PAC. 

Grove City jump out to an early 24-17 lead with 11:14 to play in the first half when J.T. Schwartz made a lay-up.  Thomas More answered with a 23-5 run to take a 40-29 lead when sophomore guard/forward Nate McGovney (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) made a three-point with 1:24 to play in the first half.  The Wolverines closed out the half on a 5-0 run to cut the lead to 40-34 at halftime when Cory Huff made a lay-up with 23-seconds to play in the opening half.

The Saints extended the lead to as many as 21 points in the second half as they out-scored the Wolverines 41-31 to cruise to the 81-65 victory.

Thomas More shoot 50 percent from the field (27-of-54) tonight, including 60 percent from behind the three-point arc (15-of-25).

McGovney led all scorers with 17 points.  He was joined in double-figures by senior forward Drew Mumford (Louisville, Ky./Christian Academy) with 15 points, senior forward Jalen Clark (Frankfort, Ky./Western Hills) with 12 points and sophomore guard Sawyer Pauly (Crescent Springs, Ky./Covington Catholic) with 11 points.  Mumford led the team on the boards with nine rebounds, while McGovney pulled down seven.  Mumford, Clark, sophomore guard Drew Mays (Union, Ky./Ryle) and freshman guard Daniel Williams (Louisville, Ky./Jeffersontown) led the team in assists with four each.

The Saints begin a four-game road trip on Saturday (January 31) when they travel to New Wilmington, Pennsylvania to play Westminster College.  Tip-off is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. inside Buzz Ridle Gymnasium.
