Hope Men's Basketball Wins At Adrian, Stays On MIAA Co-Leaders' Heels

The Hope College men's basketball team is ready for its rematches with the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association's top two teams.

The Flying Dutchmen remained one game out of first place in the league standings by winning 68-58 at Adrian on Wednesday.

Senior guard Alex Eidson of Grand Haven, Michigan (Grand Haven HS), led Hope with a team-high 16 points.

The Flying Dutchmen improved to 12-6 overall and 5-2 in MIAA play. They trail Trine and Calvin in the league standings. Hope hosts Trine on Saturday, January 31, at 3 p.m. at DeVos Fieldhouse, and then travels to Calvin on Wednesday, February 4, for a 6 p.m. game.

Against Adrian, the Flying Dutchmen overcame a 23-14 deficit 10 minutes, 5 seconds to lead 31-25 at halftime. Eidson had 10 points in the first half.

Sophomore forward Harrison Blackledge of Canton, Ohio (Hoover HS), scored nine of his 13 points during the second half against Adrian, which fell to 6-11 overall and 4-3 in MIAA action.

Junior guard Ben Gardner of Carmel, Indiana (Carmel HS), also reached double figures with 10 points.

The Flying Dutchmen collected 18 assists, including three apiece for four starters: Blackledge, Eidson, Gardner and junior center Brock Benson.

 

Benson chipped in nine points and a game-high nine rebounds. Sophomore guard Chad Carlson of Rockford, Michigan (Rockford HS), had eight points for the Flying Dutch.
