UW-La Crosse Falls to Nationally-Ranked UW-Stevens Point

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's basketball team fell 63-44 to 19th-ranked UW-Stevens Point Wednesday night in Mitchell Hall.  The Eagles drop to 8-11 overall and 3-7 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Pointers improve to 15-4 overall and 9-1 in the conference.  It was UW-Stevens Point's ninth win in the last 10 meetings with UW-L. 

The Pointers scored the first four points of the game on jumpers from Alex Richard and Austin Ryf. The Eagles scored the next nine points of the game to lead 9-4 with 15:53 remaining, hitting three straight field goal attempts. 

UW-Stevens Point responded scoring the final 27 points of the half to lead 31-9.  UW-L went the final 15:53 of the half without scoring as the Eagles missed their last 18 shots from the field.  

UW-L scored its first points of the second half at 18:55 on a Skylar Cameron layup to cut the UW-Stevens Point lead to 31-11.  The Eagles went 16:58 of game time without scoring, missing 19 straight shots from the field.  UW-L could get no closer than 19 points at 50-31 with 7:59 remaining after a Tom Jankowski three-pointer. 

UW-L shot 26.0% from the field, including 20.0% (five-of-25) form three-point range, and 76.5% (13-of-17) at the free throw line. Cameron led the Eagles with 11 points while Sean Wheeler scored nine points off the bench. 

UW-Stevens Point, ranked 19th on this week's D3hoops.com Top-25 Poll, shot 44.8% from the field, including 31.6% (six-of-19) from three-point range, and 71.4% (five-of-seven) at the line.  Richard led the Pointers with 15 points while Ryf and Sean McGann each finished with 11. Richard and Joe Ritchay had a game-high eight rebounds each.

UW-L returns to action Saturday, January 31 at number-one ranked UW-Whitewater at 7 p.m.
