Trine Drops Albion

ANGOLA, Ind. – Will Dixon scored 19 of his game-high 27 points in the second half to power Trine University to a 66-56 victory over Albion College in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association men's basketball action.

Dixon scored on three consecutive possessions as Trine seized a 39-36 lead with 13 minutes to play and it never trailed from that point.

Travell Oakes produced an old-fashioned three-point play to keep Albion within three, 42-39, with 11:44 left. Jared Holmquist and Dixon scored on Trine's next two possessions and the Thunder led by at least four the rest of the way.

Albion led for most of the first half. Corey Wheeler made a pair of layups, and Oakes and Jordan Herron tacked on baskets as the Britons held a 18-10 lead midway through the first half.

Albion shot 50 percent from the field in the first half (11-of-22) and settled for a 30-26 lead at halftime.

Albion finished shooting 44 percent from the field (21-of-48). Oakes, who was 5-of-9 from the field, finished with 15 points. Dakota Kazen, in the starting lineup for the first time since November, added 14 points on 4-of-9 shooting from three-point range. Herron produced 10 points and eight rebounds.

Holmquist finished with 20 points for Trine.

Albion completes the first round of its MIAA schedule Wednesday with a road trip to Calvin College.
