Second Half Charge Leads Old Westbury Past Rams

Old Westbury, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's basketball team traveled to Old Westbury for a Skyline Conference game on Thursday evening and fell, 69-61. The Rams now stand and 3-12 overall and 1-7 in conference action, while the Panthers improved to 5-10, 5-3.

As the game went to halftime tied 29-29, senior guard Justin Bailey (Jamaica, N.Y.) had a team-leading six points on 3-for-5 shooting for Farmingdale State, while Old Westbury was led by sophomore forward Luckens Victor (Westbury, N.Y.) who scored seven points.

Leading 44-42 with 11:14 remaining, the Panthers used a Mark Gjonlekaj (Roslyn, N.Y.) layup and 3-pointer by Omari Trebuse (Brooklyn, N.Y.) to extend the lead to seven, 49-42.

After the Rams cut the deficit to 51-46, a 13-3 Old Westbury run put the Panthers ahead 64-49 with 5:09 left on the clock. Farmingdale State responded with seven unanswered points over the next 1:01 to close within eight at 64-56. Old Westbury held at least a seven point advantage the remainder of the game as they earned the 69-61 victory.

Freshman guard Trey Kinard (Deer Park, N.Y.) tallied a team-high 12 points, while freshman guard Leland Williams (Amityville, N.Y.) added 11 points and six rebounds. Junior forward Marques Underwood (Bronx, N.Y.) recorded nine points and a game-leading 12 boards for Farmingdale State.

The Panthers were led by Gjonlekaj's 15 points, while junior guard Reynaldo Walters (South Ozone Park, N.Y.) scored 13 points.

The Rams next will host Sage in a Skyline Conference game on Saturday, January 24th at 3:00 p.m.
