PITTSBURGH – Senior forward Dane McLoughlin (Westerville, Ohio/St. Charles Preparatory) scored a game-high 22 points, and the Case Western Reserve University men's basketball team defeated Penn State New Kensington, 97-68, on the second day of the CMU DoubleTree Invitational at Skibo Gymnasium.

The Spartans improve to 5-1 for the second season in a row and second time since 2007. The Lions drop to 1-3.

McLoughlin shot 8-for-13 from the field and 6-for-11 from three-point range. With a combined 40 points over the weekend, McLoughlin was named to the all-tournament team along with senior guard Julien Person (Paris, France/Second Baptist, Texas).

In a game where 14 different Spartans found the scoring column, sophomore forward Mac Hartman (New Wilmington, Pa./Kennedy Catholic) contributed a career-high 11 points off of the bench.

At 11:53 in the first half, freshman forward Eric Black (Avon Lake, Ohio/Saint Ignatius) hit a free throw to tie the game at 17-17. The Spartans then went on a 14-2 run and remained ahead of the Lions for the duration with the largest point margin of 37 coming at 6:38 in the second half.  

Person finished with eight points and three assists, while senior point guard Jordan Dean (St. Johns, Fla./Creekside) recorded eight points and five helpers.

Dorian Broadwater led Penn State New Kensington with 26 points, while Ahman Muhammad added 23.

The Spartans will next play at Adrian College (Mich.) on Saturday, December 6 at 1:00 p.m.
