SALEM, Va. – Senior Chris Hamilton (Bellbrook, Ohio/Bellbrook) matched his season high with 22 points as the No. 16 Randolph-Macon men's basketball team downed Roanoke 101-73 Saturday afternoon in ODAC action at Bast Gymnasium.
The first-place Yellow Jackets (13-2, 6-0 ODAC) won their 10th straight contest.
Hamilton went 7 for 9 from the floor, 5 for 7 from three-point range and 3 for 3 from the free throw line for 22 points in 18 minutes.
Senior Akeem Holmes (King William, Va./King William) and junior Lamont Moore (Waverly, Va./Tidewater Academy) both had 12 points off the bench for R-MC.
The Yellow Jackets scored the first six points of the contest and never trailed. The advantage was 18 at 34-16 with 7:20 left in the first period. R-MC led by as many as 23, including 55-32 at the break. Hamilton had 11 in the first half, while Moore and freshman Mike Silverthorn (Hackettstown, N.J./Blair Academy) both tallied eight.
R-MC led by at least 20 through the first five minutes of the second half before the Maroons (6-9, 1-5 ODAC) scored 10 straight to cut the deficit to 12 at 67-55 with 12:20 remaining. The Yellow Jackets blitzed Roanoke with a 28-6 run over the next nine minutes as R-MC led 95-61 with 3:45 left before posting the 101-73 win.
The Yellow Jackets shot 54.4% from the floor (37-68), 39.1% on three-pointers (9-23) and 78.3% from the free throw line. Roanoke hit 39.7% on field goals (25-63). R-MC has held each of its past six opponents to under 40% shooting from the floor. Andrew Daniels had 13 points to pace the Maroons.
Randolph-Macon returns home on Wednesday, Jan. 21 for a 7 p.m. ODAC contest against eighth-ranked Virginia Wesleyan in Crenshaw Gymnasium.
