THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – Freshman Patrick MacDonald (Buffalo, N.Y./Canisius) recorded a season-high 19 points, and classmate John Liccese (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman) picked up 16, but it was not enough as the Maritime men's basketball team fell at home to the Brooklyn Bulldogs by the score of 77-63.

In addition to the big nights from the rookies, Maritime also had eight points from sophomore Brendon Halligan (Durham, N.Y./Cairo-Durham), while classmate Isaiah Hayes (Jamaica, N.Y./Queens Teaching) recorded eight. Senior Sean Corley (Harlem, N.Y./Thurgood Marshall Academy) had six points, while fellow senior T'Vaughn Gibson (Freeport, Bahamas/Sunland Baptist Academy) ended the night with five. Sophomore Darien Bryan (Jamaica, N.Y./Queens Teaching) also picked up a pair of points at the free throw line.

MacDonald led the team with seven rebounds, with Hayes also finishing the night with seven. Liccese had the team high with four assists, with both MacDonald and Hayes leading the team with two blocks apiece.

Liccese started the game for Maritime with back-to-back buckets to put the Privateers ahead by four. The lead then changed hands several times through the next few minutes before Brooklyn began to pull away and increased its lead to nine at 21-12 with 9:10 to go in the opening stanza.

The lead swelled up to 11 points, but Maritime chipped away on the following possessions and after a jumper by MacDonald the Privateers were back within seven at 27-20. Through the remainder of the period the score differential remained the same, as the Bulldogs took a 34-28 lead into the halftime break.

After the intermission, Hayes took early control of the period with a basket and a pair of free throws to trim the deficit to a pair at 34-32. After a Bulldog make on the other end, Liccese stepped back for a three-pointer and pulled the Privateers back within one. Brooklyn then went on another solid run of 14-4, and pulled back away by 11 points with 13:05 left in regulation.

After falling behind by 17, MacDonald responded with a layup and sank the ensuing free throw, then followed that up with another layup after a strong defensive possession by Maritime. The Privateers were unable to get the deficit back within single-digits as Brooklyn continued to answer on the other end of the court. The final horn sounded with the Bulldogs coming away with the 77-63 victory.

Maritime's defense did something no other team had done this season, as they held the Bulldogs below 80 points for the first time this season.

As a team, the Privateers finished the night shooting 39% from the field with the Bulldogs sinking 42.3% of the shots.

Maritime (2-5, 0-1 Skyline) will wrap up the 2014 half of the schedule on Saturday evening when the team travels to New York City to take on Yeshiva for an 8:30 tip.

Brooklyn (7-1, 1-0 CUNYAC) will travel to take on John Jay on Saturday afternoon in New York City for a 4 p.m. start against the Bloodhounds.
