Strong Second Half Propels Men's Basketball Over Hunter, 75-58

Brooklyn, NY --- The Brooklyn College Men's Basketball team soared past the Hawks of Hunter College, 75-58, on Wednesday evening in City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) action at the West Quad Center.

With the win, BC improves to 13-3 overall on the season and 6-2 in the CUNYAC; while Hunter drops to 6-9 overall on the year and 3-4 in conference play.

Brooklyn jumped out to an 8-0 run to start the game, sparked by Jai Kellman, who scored the first five points of the contest. The Bulldogs would led by as many as 10 in the half, 29-19, with 8:21 left before the halftime buzzer; however, the Hawks would storm back to eventually take the lead using a 15-2 run take a three-point, 34-31, lead with 2:23 remaining in the half.

The teams would eventually head into the locker room with the game knotted at 36 all.

Jarrell Antley scored 17 points in the opening half to help carry the offensive load for the visiting Hawks. Lorenzo Williams (nine points) and Kellman (eight points) each provided an offensive spark for the Bulldogs, as Brooklyn shot an even 50% (16-for-32) from the field.

The second half saw the teams exchange baskets early on. Following a layup from Hunter's Alex Mattina that tied the game at 40-40 at the 18:40 mark, the Bulldogs would surge out on a 15-2 run of their own to take a commanding 13-point, 55-42, lead with 14:08 left on the clock.

Brooklyn would keep Hunter at bay for the remainder of the game, as the Bulldogs would go on to take the 17-point win, 75-58. BC shot an impressive 60% (12-for-20) from the field in the second period and took full advantage of the free throw line, going 15-for-21 (71.4%) from the charity stripe, paced by Egzon Gjonbalaj who went a perfect 10-for-10 from the line in the second half. Hunter was held to just 26.3% (10-for-38) shooting from the field in the second half, as the Bulldogs outscored the Hawks 39-22 in the second period.

Williams finished with a team-high 23 points, to go along with five assists and five rebounds, while Gjonbalaj ended his night with 18 points and eight rebounds. Jamel Gist added 11 points and Enees Nikovic pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds.

Antley led all scorers with 26 points for the Hawks.

Brooklyn returns to action this Saturday, January 17th, as the Bulldogs will host the Giants of Keystone College in their final non-conference game of the season. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 pm at the West Quad Center.
