ANDERSON, IND. – Manchester University continued to see strong scoring balance amongst its starting five, but that positive couldn't off-set a red-hot shooting Anderson University squad Wednesday, Jan. 14.
For a third straight game, the Spartans (2-12 overall, 1-6 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference) put three players in the scoring double-figure category. Junior forward Matt Brown (Hobart, Ind.) continued his impressive 2014-15 campaign, tallying 21 points on an eight-of-13 effort from the field and hitting on five-of-six charity tosses. Brown also corralled a team-leading nine rebounds. The sophomore guard combination of Chase Casteel (Monrovia, Ind.) and Blake Brouwer (Elkhart, Ind.) added 13 and 15 points, respectively, as they combined to drain four three-pointers.
The host Ravens (6-8 overall, 5-2 HCAC) bolted out to a 19-6 lead in the opening 10 minutes and continued their offensive attack in route to a 98-77 victory inside O.C. Lewis Gymnasium. AU drained 10 three-point buckets and hit 55.1 percent from the field as sophomore guard Nathaniel Acree (22 pts.) and senior forward Nathan Gross (30 pts.) both tallied 20-or-more- efforts.
MU continues league play and returns to Stauffer-Wolfe Arena for a 5 p.m. tipoff against Hanover College Saturday, Jan. 17.
NOTES: Brown harbors a string of five straight double-figure scoring games. His season average is a team-best and personal season high 15.2 points per game, as he's recorded two of his three 20-point-plus contests in the roll. The junior also has a strong streak of five successive outings in which he's made five-or-more field goals … Casteel has reached double digits in three straight appearances. His season scoring average is up better than four points (4.0-8.4) in the period … Brouwer has a similar string intact, due in large part to resuming a run of four straight games with multiple made three-point baskets. His average is up nearly a point-and-a-half in the span (10.4 – 11.7).
