Buffalo State Topples Pine Manor, 111-90

TROY, NY— Lovell Smith (Buffalo/McKinley) netted a career-high 34 points to lead Buffalo State (5-6) to a convincing 111-90 victory over Pine Manor (4-8) in a non-conference game this afternoon hosted by the Sage Colleges.  The 111 points scored were the most by the Bengals since scoring 112 in a win over Geneseo on Jan. 18, 2011.

Smith was 14 of 17 from the field, bettering his previous career scoring high of 19.  Roderick Epps (Uniondale/Uniondale) added 25 points, seven rebounds and four assists, while Larry Rivers (Syracuse/Fowler) finished with 15 points and 10 boards.

The Bengals led 47-37 at the half, and then used a 13-2 run early in the second half to pull away and never look back.

Buffalo State dominated Pine Manor inside, owning a 56-34 rebounding advantage, and outscoring the Gators 68-34 in the paint.  Pine Manor was able to keep itself in the game, hitting 10 of 21 3-pointers, outscoring the Bengals 30-6 from long range. 

The game was a makeup from a contest that was originally slated to be part of the Buffalo State Coles Classis which was postponed due to the November storm.

Buffalo State will return to SUNYAC play on Friday when it visits Brockport at 5:30 p.m.
