Brooklyn, NY- The Men's Basketball team fell to the City College of New York Beavers 65-64 earlier tonight. The Beavers improve to 5-8 overall and 1-6 CUNYAC while the Cougars drop to 1-12 overall and 0-6 CUNYAC.
The Beavers led for the 14 minutes. The Cougars would cut the lead to single digits for majority of the time. With 6:10 left in the 1st half, Junior Guard Mark Hudson nailed a jumper, tying the score at 22. Junior Guard Zavier Coston made a free throw, giving the Cougars a 23-22 lead. CCNY would regain the lead for a brief moment, before the Cougars finished the half on a 5-4 run (31-28).
In the 2nd half, the Cougars led for the first 18:30 minutes. CCNY would tie the score twice, but the Cougars held a comfortable lead. Medgar Evers College held a 12pt. lead before the Beavers came back. In the final 90 seconds, CCNY would go a 3-2 run and win the game 65-64. Junior Guard Kyle Sierra would convert on a pair of free throws, cutting the lead to one point. Sierra would have to chance to win the game, but failed twice.
The Cougars shot 38.5% from the field, 31.6% from 3pt. range, and 61.5% from the free throw line. They were led by Junior Guard Kyle Sierra with 15pts (5-14 FG-FGA, 3-10 3pt. FG-FGA, and 2-2 FT-FTA). Kyle added two rebounds and dished out a team high four assists. Freshman Guard Reynaldo Eloy scored 15pts (5-11 FG-FGA, 3-5 3pt. FG-FGA, and 2-4 FT-FTA). Reynaldo grabbed three rebounds, dished out three assists, and added a steal. Senior Forward Valin Williams recorded his 6th double-double of the season, scoring 13pts (6-8 FG-FGA and 1-3 FT-FTA) and grabbing 12 rebounds (8 defensive).Valin added an assist, and swiped away six shots. City College was led by Khalil Hamer with 22pts and Anthony Lewis adding 20pts.
The Cougars will be back in action on Wednesday Janauary. 14, 2015, when they play the John Jay College Bloodhounds. Game time will be 8pm at Medgar Evers College.
