HIRAM, OHIO -- The Hiram College men's basketball team stormed back from a 12-point second half deficit to defeat Wittenberg 65-59 on Saturday afternoon.

The Terriers are improve to 8-5 overall on the season and 2-4 in the NCAC, while the Tigers drop to 3-10, 1-5.

Hiram closed the game on a 35-13 run after trailing 46-34 with just over 13 minutes remaining.

Down 49-42, Hiram used a 10-2 run to take a 52-51 lead with 7:30 left to play. It was the Terriers first lead since a 13-12 advantage early in the first half.

Hiram would open up a four-point advantage at 57-53 with 3:21 left to play, before Wittenberg scored the next three points to make the score 57-56.

Jumpers by senior Josh Edmondson (Euclid/Twinsburg) and freshman Kelvin Jones (Sheffield Lake/Brookside) pushed Hiram's lead to 61-56 with one minute to go.

Junior Austen Rekolt (Salem/West Branch) would split a pair of free throws, but the Tigers would drain a 3-pointer to cut Hiram's lead 62-59 with 21 seconds left.

Sophomore Kyle Deckerd (Canton/Canton South) put the game away with a pair of free throws with 14 seconds remaining.

A 3-pointer by Edmondson with 13:25 left in the first half broke a 10-10 tie and put the Terriers on top 13-10.

But Wittenberg responded with a 15-0 run to open up a 25-13 lead.

Hiram would chip away at the lead for the remainder of the first half and trailed 32-28 at the break.

Junior J.J. Woodson (Cleveland/Bedford) paced the Terriers with 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting.

Edmondson scored a season-high 12 points off the bench and tied his season-best with six rebounds. Jones recorded his second double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Cody Phillippi led Wittenberg with a game-high 20 points.

"I thought that we didn't play our best today," said head coach Chris Kibler. "We played through a lot of adversity and found a way to come out with a win."

Hiram finished the contest going 25-of-50 (50.0 percent) from the field and 7-of-10 (70.0 percent) in free throws. The Tigers were 22-of-55 (40.0 percent) in shooting and 9-of-16 (56.2 percent) from the charity stripe.

Wittenberg held a slim 33-32 edge in rebounding.

Hiram will return to action on Wednesday when it hosts No. 14-ranked Wooster. The game will be the second game of a double header and is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m.
