NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz men's basketball team led from start to finish in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) contest Saturday afternoon at the Hawk Center against SUNY Geneseo, as the Hawks prevailed, 75-62, over the visiting Knights.

New Paltz's win streak has reached four with the victory, marking the longest tear in fourth-year head coach Mike Rejniak's career. The program's last four-game winning streak came in the 2010-11 campaign, as the Hawks won four straight conference games from Jan. 7-14, 2011. New Paltz has also moved into second in the SUNYAC standings behind unbeaten SUNY Oswego, which is 4-0 in conference play and 8-3 overall.

With the win, the Hawks move to 6-6 overall and 4-1 in the SUNYAC on the year. New Paltz next visits SUNY Oneonta on Thursday, Jan. 15, for a 4 p.m. contest. Geneseo drops to 6-4 overall and 2-1 in the SUNYAC with the loss and next hosts SUNY Cortland on Tuesday, Jan. 13, at 5:30 p.m.

The Hawks scored the first eight points of the contest to open up an early lead and prevented the Knights from scoring a field goal until senior guard Andy Drescher knocked down a 3-pointer with 9:59 left in the first half to pull the Knights within four. That 3-pointer came during a 7-0 Geneseo run, but New Paltz countered with a 9-0 tear.

The Hawks continued to cruise as time wound down in the first half, leading by as many as 14 points en route to taking a 31-20 cushion into the locker rooms. Sophomore guard Eric Regenbogen (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) led to much of the team's success in the first half, hitting five of his six first-half field goals, which included four 3-pointers, to finish the first 20 minutes of play with 14 points.

Geneseo cut the deficit to single digits early in the second half, but a 7-0 Hawk scoring spree pushed the margin to 15 (47-32) after junior forward Kevin Roach (Levittown, N.Y./MacArthur) converted on a layup. The Knights took over the momentum with a 12-2 run, however, and junior forward Nick Fessenden made it a five-point game after a made layup with 8:48 remaining in regulation. Geneseo came within five points one more time, but New Paltz closed the contest on a 21-13 spurt to pull away.

New Paltz relied on its bench for the bulk of the scoring load, as the Hawks' reserves netted 42 points. The Hawks shot 49 percent (25-of-51) from the floor, including a 41.7 percent (10-of-24) mark from long range, and they held Geneseo to 35 percent (21-of-60) shooting from the field on the afternoon. New Paltz also finished with a 38-33 edge in rebounds.

Regenbogen led the way with 21 points off 6-of-10 shooting from the field, 5-of-9 shooting from 3-point range and 4-of-4 shooting from the free-throw line coming off the bench. Senior guard/forward Taylor Sowah (Bronx, N.Y./Miller Place) and senior guard/forward R.J. Rosa (North Branch, N.Y./Sullivan West) tallied 14 and 13 points, respectively, while sophomore center Taylor Mulvey (Rotterdam, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) and junior guard Keegan Donovan (Groton, N.Y./Groton) chipped in 11 and 10 points, respectively, coming off the bench. Sowah's stat line also included seven rebounds, four assists and two steals.

For Geneseo, Drescher netted a team-high 18 points off 6-of-12 shooting from beyond the arc, while senior forward Gordon Lyons' double-double streak to start the season was snapped after totaling 14 points and nine rebounds.
