Geneseo Defeats Oneonta, 71-58

ONEONTA, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo senior forward Gordon Lyons scored 10 points and grabbed 16 rebounds for his ninth-straight double-double to lead the Knights over Oneonta, 71-58, in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play, Friday.

Senior forward James McKenna came off the bench to lead all scorers with 18 points, while senior guard Andy Drescher added 12 points in the win. Geneseo out-rebounded the Red Dragons by a decisive 46-31 margin, while the Knights out-scored their hosts, 34-18, in the paint.

Trailing, 9-4, with 16:14 on the clock, a layup by senior center Devon Anderson finished off an 18-3 run over the next 5:11 that gave the Knights a 22-12 edge it would not relinquish.

A three-point basket by sophomore guard Jonathan Cohen staked Geneseo to a 33-18 lead at 5:58 as the Knights led by a 37-25 margin heading into halftime. 

The lead grew to as many as 19 with 11:32 left in the second half as the Knights improved to 2-0 in SUNYAC play.

Geneseo travels to New Paltz on Saturday to take on the Hawks at 2:00 p.m.
