Knight joins 1,000-point club, Gwynedd Mercy Downs Baptist Bible

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Senior Justin Knight had 22 points, while hitting the 1,000th career point plateau, in an 80-58 Colonial States Athletic Conference victory over Baptist Bible Wednesday night at the Griffin Complex.  Now 8-3 overall, the victory pushes GM to 3-1 in CSAC play. 

A cohesive first half performance provided the Griffins with a 16-point cushion over the Defenders heading into the break.  Knight drained a three in the first minute of play to kick the GM offense into gear while later his bucket later in the stanza helped give the Griffins a 21-point edge with under five minutes in the half.   

The Griffins shot 47.2% (17-36) from the field.  BBC only shot 25% (7-28) from the floor, but were 100% from the foul-line in the first 20 minutes.

The Defenders would pull within 11 early in the second half before Knight would score the nine-straight points, capped off with a big three-pointer to restore a 20-point edge with 8:33 to go.

Sophomore Arron Goodman led all scorers with 23 points while adding seven rebounds Sophomore Cedric Elleby chipped 14 points. He and Knight would pull down eight boards apiece.

Knight would enter the 1,000-point club from the foul-line with 2:04 remaining in the game, hitting the first of two attempts at the stripe. At the next stoppage, he was mobbed by his teammates as his milestone was announced.

Baptist (0-10, 0-4 CSAC) had two players go on to reach double digits.  Dan Decker led the way with 16 points and Abe Valentine added 14.

For the game, GM won the battle of the boards, 40-30, while forcing 23 turnovers that led to 26 points.

Gwynedd will return to action on Saturday as they travel to Immaculata University.  Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
