Mumford Leads Thomas More to a 73-65 Win Over Bethany

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – Senior forward Drew Mumford (Louisville, Ky./Christian Academy) scored a game-high 27 points to lead the Thomas More College men's basketball team to a 73-65 win over Bethany College tonight (Wednesday, January 07, 2015) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.

With the win, the Saints improve to 8-5 overall and 3-1 in the PAC, while the Bison fall to 6-7 overall and 1-3 in the PAC with the loss.

Thomas More raced out to a 19-9 lead with 12:14 to play in the first half when Mumford made a jumper.  Bethany answered with a 13-4 run to cut the lead to 23-22 when Pedro Lalor made a jumper with 6:28 to play in the first half.  Thomas More responded with a 6-2 run to increase the lead to 29-24 when freshman guard Daniel Williams (Louisville, Ky./Jeffersonville) made a three-pointer with 3:48 to play in the half.  The Bison used a 9-1 run to take a 33-30 lead with 1:14 to play in the first half when Liam Davis made a lay-up.  Senior forward Jalen Clark (Frankfort, Ky./Western Hills) made a jumper with 35-seconds to play in the half to cut the lead to 33-32 at halftime.

Thomas More opened the second half on a 23-9 run capped by a Clark lay-up with 9:20 to play in the game to give the Saints a 55-42 lead.  Bethany put together a 5-0 run to cut the lead to 55-47 with 7:43 to play in the game when Calique Jones made a lay-up.  The Saints answered with a 7-2 run to extend the lead to 62-49 with 4:50 to play in the game when freshman center Louis Maniacci (Burlington, Ky./Cooper) made a lay-up.  Bethany responded with a 12-3 to cut the lead to 64-61 with 2:16 to play in the game when Delonte' Joyce made a three-pointer.  That would be as close as the Bison would come as Thomas More closed out the game on a 9-4 run for the 73-65 victory.

Freshman forward Austin Young (Campbellsburg, Ky./Henry County) just missed double-figure scoring with nine points, while Clark and sophomore guard/forward Nate McGovney (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) each finished with eight points.  Maniacci led the team on the boards with a game-high 14 rebounds, while sophomore guard Drew Mays (Union, Ky./Ryle) led the team in assists with eight.

Thomas More returns to action on Saturday (January 10) when it travels to Washington, Pennsylvania to play Washington & Jefferson College.  Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. inside the Henry Memorial Center.
