CCNY rally falls short against Staten Island

NEW YORK --- The City College of New York men's basketball team lost 78-61 to the visiting College of Staten Island on Tuesday night at the Nat Holman Gymnasium. The Dolphins of CSI are now 7-4 overall and 5-1 in the CUNYAC while the Beavers of CCNY drop to 4-8 and 0-6 in the conference standings.
 
Senior Anthony Lewis scored 16 points with 11 rebounds and two steals to lead CCNY. Lewis has scored in double-digits for 27 straight games in which he has played. Sophomore Khalil Hamer scored 13 points, while freshman Matt Wilmot-Stroud made four-of-five shots from behind the arc to finish with a career high 14 points. Wilmot-Stroud currently leads the Beavers in three-point shooting among all players with more than ten three-point field goal attempts. Sophomore David Solano added ten points.
 
CSI was led by junior Will Fonseca, who scored 23 points with 12 rebounds and six assists playing all 40 minutes. Sophomore Frank Schettino recorded 12 points, 11 assists and eight rebounds, finishing just two boards short of a triple-double. Junior Thomas Delahanty scored 16 points while pulling down eight boards.

Down by as much as 11 in the first half, CCNY rallied to pull to within one on a three-pointer by Wilmot-Stroud going into halftime, 32-31. The Beavers tied the game on a free throw at the start of the second period, but we unable to stop the Dolphins from building a decisive lead.
 
The Beavers will look to bounce back on Friday when they play at Medgar Evers College with an 8:00 p.m. tip-off.
