Colby men's basketball wins scoring battle with Husson, 99-94

WATERVILLE, Maine --- The Colby College men's basketball team had four players with 19 points or more in a wild 99-94 non-conference victory over Husson University on Tuesday night at Wadsworth Gymnasium.

The Mules improve to 7-5 overall, while Husson drops to 8-2 overall.

Chris Hudnut, after missing Saturday's loss at Maine-Farmington with an injury, was welcomed back with team-highs of 26 points, 14 rebounds, and six assists. He was 10-for-15 from the field and had 12 defensive boards. Hudnut is averaging 19.4 points and 10.2 rebounds in 11 games.

Luke Westman shot 7-for-8 from the field for 22 points and five rebounds for Colby. Ryan Jann was 7-for-12 from the field on the way to 20 points, five boards, and four assists. Sam Willson also was strong with 19 points on 8-for-12 shooting and five rebounds.
The Mules shot 59 percent (36-for-61) from the field and still only won by five points. Husson also played well, hitting 50 percent (33-for-66) from the field and 45.5 percent (10-for-22) from 3-point range.
The Eagles also had three players with 20 points or more. Trevon Butler finished with 27 points, nine rebounds, seven steals, and three assists. Raheem Anderson added 22 points, six assists and five rebounds. Eli Itkin came off the bench and went 6-for-7 from 3-point range on the way to 22 points. Aaron Willis had early foul trouble and had 12 points.
Husson had motivation to win the game. Eagle head coach Warren Caruso had 399 career wins heading into the contest.
In a game that was close most of the way, Colby never trailed in the contest. The Mules led by as much as 15 points at 38-23, but Husson chipped away and Colby only led 51-45 at intermission.
The Eagles cut the margin to one point on two occasions (62-61 and 64-63) in the second half.
With an 80-77 lead with 5:55 to play, Colby used a 12-4 scoring run to go up 92-81 with 1:59 to go. The Eagles used a spirited comeback to get the final margin to five points in the final 30 seconds.
