MOUNT VERNON, Iowa - St. Norbert College bounced back from its first loss of the season with a 66-48 triumph over Cornell College in a Midwest Conference game at the Multi-Sport Center.
The Green Knights (10-1, 6-0), ranked No. 18 in the D3hoops.com Top 25, lost 80-70 to John Carroll University this past Tuesday to snap a 29-game regular-season winning streak. St. Norbert won for the 30th consecutive time against Midwest Conference foes.
St. Norbert pulled away early and maintained a comfortable lead throughout the game. The Green Knights led 14-9 with 14:08 left in the first half before going on an 11-0 run to break the game open. Andrew Schwoerer, Steven Hofacker and Mitch Winter scored on three consecutive possessions, the last hoop a 3-pointer, for a 21-9 lead. Schwoerer and Winter closed out the run with baskets for a 25-9 edge with 9:18 left before halftime.
The Green Knights, who led 37-19 at halftime, led by as many as 23 points in the second half. St. Norbert led 51-28 with 10:20 to go on a Tim Marshall basket.
Schwoerer was the only St. Norbert player to reach double figures in scoring with 15 points. The Green Knights shot 47.1 percent (24-for-51) from the floor and held a 37-24 rebounding advantage.
Grant Anderson led the Rams (2-9, 1-5) with 12 points, while Corey Davis added 11 points. Cornell shot 41.7 percent (20-for-48) from the floor.
