LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. (Dec. 30, 2014) – Led by guards Jorden Williams and Jacob McCullough, the Sewanee men's basketball team hammered regional-rival Covenant, 56-46, Tuesday, inside the Barnes P.E. Center.

Williams finished with a game-high 18 points on 6-of-15 shooting while McCullough added in a career-high 10 points.

After a slow start, the Tigers came alive with seven minutes off the clock. A jumper by McCullough, followed by a jump shot by Williams, sparked a 13-0 run by the Tigers. That gave Sewanee a 15-6 lead with 9:21 remaining in the first half.

Eventually, Sewanee would close the first half with a six-point lead, 25-19. A big key for the Tiger advantage was the play of Sewanee's defense. Sewanee forced five Covenant turnovers while holding the Scots to a 22.7 field goal percentage.

In the second half Covenant pulled to within one, after the Scots opened with a 7-2 run. However, Sewanee answered back with a 17-4 run. That led to a 44-29 advantage when Williams hit a three with 10:42 to play.

Covenant got to within 10, 50-40, with Colton McGriff hit a layup with 2:46 remaining. However, just like they did the whole second half, Sewanee responded. A layup by McCullough, and a mid-range jumper by Brody Stone, stopped any Covenant comeback attempt down the stretch.

Overall, Sewanee made 45.7 percent of its attempts. The Tigers also dominated the boards outrebounding the Scots, 40-28.

McGriff led Covenant with 14 points and five rebounds.

With the victory, the Tigers improved to 5-4 this season. Sewanee will now open Southern Athletic Association (SAA) play on Sunday against long-time rival Centre. That matchup is scheduled to tipoff at 3:00 p.m., inside Juhan Gymnasium.
