Mariners Fall at Eighth Annual Coaches vs. Cancer Basketball Classic

BRONX, N.Y. – Maine Maritime Academy Men's Basketball stumbled on the road to Lehman College, 80-54 on Tuesday afternoon in the Eighth Annual Coaches vs. Cancer Basketball Classic.

The Mariners jumped out to a 10-9 lead early in the first half, but Lehman outscored Maine Maritime 31-14 to take a 40-24 lead into the half.

Lehman came out strong in the second half, steadily increasing their lead until Nick Holt (Ellsworth, Maine) scored 10-straight unanswered points to give the Mariners momentum. Lehman's lead proved to be too large for Maine Maritime to overcome, falling 80-54.

Holt ended the afternoon with a team-high 16 points, two rebounds and an assist while Tyler Thayer (Hermon, Maine) added 11 points, four rebounds, two steals and an assist. Brian Goda (Portsmouth, N.H.) led the Mariners off the bench with 10 points, three defensive boards, and a pair of steals.

Jerrome Jones scored a game-high 18 points to lead Lehman, while grabbing five boards, two blocks, an assist, and a steal. Jonathan Greenfield added 13 points, eight rebounds, four steals, and three assists.

The Mariners (1-9) will return to action on January 10th when they travel to Husson University for a North Atlantic Conference rematch.
