Carthage Edges Lake Forest, 67-65, on Dec. 20

The Carthage College men's basketball team (4-5, 0-0 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin) returned to action after a two-week layoff on Saturday, Dec. 20 with a 67-65 win over Lake Forest College (3-5) at Tarble Arena in Kenosha, Wis.

There were five lead changes and six ties in the first half.  Lake Forest led by as much as six points, 17-11 at 13:28, and the Foresters led by two at the break, 35-33.  The game stayed close in the second half.  Lake Forest led by five points on three occasions, the last time 63-58 with 2:14 to play.  Donte Logan then scored on three layups, the first at 1:56, the second at 1:29 and the third with 17 seconds remaining to give the Red Men a 66-65 lead.  The last basket followed a missed layup by the Foresters' Torrey Davis.  Logan was fouled on the play and sank the free throw to make it 67-65.  Andrew Toth missed what would have been a game-tying jumper at the horn for Lake Forest.

Carthage shot 46 percent (24-52), including just five-of-22 from three-point range, while Lake Forest shot 42 percent (22-52), including seven-of-15 three-pointers.  The Red Men got to the free-throw line 18 times and made 14, while the Foresters converted 14-of-15.  Carthage out-rebounded Lake Forest, 35-26.

Carthage's Donte Logan (Sr., Evanston, Ill./Skokie-Niles West) led all scorers with 22 points on nine-of-13 field goals, including two-of-five three-pointers, along with three assists.  Reese Herth (Sr., Morton Grove, Ill./Skokie-Niles West) scored 15 points on five-of-11 shooting with four assists, and Cameron Van Wyk (Sr., Wassenaar, Netherlands) added 13 points and five rebounds.  Andrew Toth led Lake Forest with 14 points.  Danny Nikitas had 13 points and Jim Schick 12 points.

Carthage now faces an 11-day layoff before resuming play on Saturday afternoon, Dec. 31 with a 1 p.m. game versus Wisconsin-Oshkosh (5-5) at the Kolf Sports Center in Oshkosh, Wis.
