TWO COUGARS SCORE DOUBLE DIGITS IN LOSS TO MT. ST. VINCENT

Riverdale, NY- The Medgar Evers College Men's Basketball team fell to the College of Mt. St. Vincent 84-61 in the 2014-15 season opener. The Dolphins improve to 1-0 overall while the Cougars drop to 0-1 overall. 

The Cougars started off the game with a 7-0 run.The Dolphins would slowly chip away at the lead, before tying game at 11 with 13:57 left in the 1st half. Both teams would swap baskets for the next two minutes. They both played tight defense and not one team led more than a two points. The sixth tie occured with 4:47 left in the half, when Junior Guard Mark Hudson converted a jumper, evening the score at 29. The Dolphins would finish the half on a 13-8 run. 

In the 2nd half, the Dolphins started off on a 6-0 run, and extending their lead to 13. The Cougars would only cut the lead to 10pts, which was on a 3pt. shot from Sophomore Guard Reynaldo Eloy, with 8:39 left. The Dolphins outshot the Cougars 42-24. 

In the loss, the Cougars were led by Junior Guard Matt Walker with 22pts (8-14 FG-FGA, 4-7 3pt. FG-FGA, and 2-4 FT-FTA). The Brooklyn nite,grabbed five rebounds (all defensive), and dished out an assist. Junior Guard Mark Hudson scored 14pts (6-11 FG-FGA and 2-4 FT-FTA). Mark grabbed four rebounds (all defensive), dished out an assist, and added a steal. Senior Forward Valin Williams led the game with 14 rebounds.

The Dolphins were led by James Zuccaro with 19pts Three other student-athletes scored in the double digits including: Kyle Beckmann scored 15pts, Jemir Ferebee scored 14pts, and Ammad Alkhulaidi added 11pts.  

The Cougars will be back in action on Wednesday November  19, 2014, when they travel to Patchogue, NY and play the Saint Joseph's College of Long Island Eagles. Game time is 7:30 pm.
