Ramapo - 80, Farmingdale State - 72
Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's basketball team fell, 80-72, in a non-conference game against Ramapo this afternoon in Farmingdale, N.Y. The Rams dropped to 2-7 on the year, while the Roadrunners improved to 7-2.
Leading 41-40 early in the second half, Farmingdale State increased their advantage to 45-40 after back-to-back layups by senior guard Justin Bailey (Jamaica, N.Y.) and freshman guard Trey Kinard (Deer Park, N.Y.).
Ramapo responded with a 12-2 run to take a 52-47 lead with 10:55 remaining. The Rams closed within one, 56-55, but five unanswered Roadrunner points capped off by a Ve'Shawn Polite (Harlem, N.Y.) dunk extended their lead to 61-55 with 6:58 on the clock. Farmingdale State scored on their next two possessions to cut the deficit to two, but an 8-2 Ramapo run put the Roadrunners on top 69-61 with less that three minutes remaining.
Ramapo held at least a five point lead down the stretch as they earned the 80-72 victory.
Bailey scored a team-high 23 points and added four assists, while junior guard Ruben Terrero (Brentwood, N.Y.) had 13 points and a game-high six assists. Kinard tallied 13 points on 5-of-12 shooting, including three 3-pointers and freshman forward Eriq Williams (Valley Stream, N.Y.) scored eight points, had 15 boards and five blocks for Farmingdale State.
The Roadrunners were led by Frank Nock (Bridgeton, N.J.) and Thomas Bonacum (Fanwood, N.J.) who scored 22 and 21 points, respectively.
The Rams next will travel to Mount Saint Vincent for a Skyline Conference game on Saturday, January 3rd at 3:00 p.m.
