Brooklyn Extends Win Streak to 10; Strikes Down Lightning, 91-72

Brooklyn, NY --- The Brooklyn College Men's Basketball team closed out the month of December with a perfect 5-0 record to extend its winning streak to 10 straight following a 91-72 victory over the Lehman College Lightning in City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) action on Friday night at the West Quad Center.

With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 10-1 overall on the season and 4-0 in the CUNYAC. The Lightning now stand at 5-4 overall on the year with the loss and an even 2-2 in conference action.

Junior Lorenzo Williams led all scorers with a game-high 25 points, to go with six rebounds, six assists and two steals, while classmate Egzon Gjonbalaj registered his second straight double-double of the week and fifth overall on the year with 24 points and 14 rebounds. Senior Jai Kellman finished with 18 points, while classmate Valon Djombalic chipped in with 12 points, eight rebounds and four blocks. Sophomore Harry Hazan dished out a game-high eight assists coming off the bench.

Lehman's Jonathan Greenfield led the visitors with a team-high 21 points, to go with six rebounds, while Driton Hasangjekaj contributed with 11 points. Chaun Miller pulled down 11 rebounds, to go with eight points and six assists.

The Lightning took an early three-point lead to open the game, 5-2, after a layup from Greenfield to start the game and a three pointer from Hasangjekaj. The Bulldogs would answer with a 12-2 run to seize control of the game, 14-7, at the 15:54 mark of the first half.

Lehman would cut its deficit to one, 26-25, on a layup from Greenfield with 9:17 left before the halftime break; however, that's as close as the visitors would get to retake the lead, as Brooklyn began to push its lead towards double digits, eventually leading by as many as 14 en route to taking a 49-37 intermission lead into the locker room.

Brooklyn would maintain its double-digit lead throughout the second half and lead by as many as 20, the largest lead of the night, on two occasions before taking home the 91-72 win.

For the game, BC shot 57.6% (34-for-59) from the field, including 45.5% (10-for-22) from three. The Bulldogs also took full advantage of the charity stripe, converting 72.2% (13-for-18) from the line.

The Lightning shot 38.6% (32-for-82) from the field and struggled from beyond the arc shooting just 18.8% (3-for-16) from three. Lehman shot 62.5% (5-for-8) from the line.

The Bulldogs will now take a break for final exams and the holidays before returning to the hardwood after the New Year when Brooklyn will open the 2015 portion of its 2014-2015 schedule on Saturday, January 3rd on the road at the College of Staten Island. The game is slated for a 3:00 pm tip-off.
