MADISON, N.J. (Dec. 9, 2014) – The Drew University men's basketball team scored a decisive 71-51 victory at FDU-Florham in the Battle of Madison Ave. on Tuesday evening to end a three-game Devils winning streak in the rivalry series.
 
Junior guard Mike Klinger scored a game-high 17 points, while junior guard Kevin Herring II notched a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Junior swingman Ozan Yucetepe joined his classmates in double figures with 13 points and added six boards in the victory.
 
On a day that Herring II was named a Met Basketball Writers Association Player of the Week Honorable Mention and ECAC South Co-Player of the Week, Herring II enjoyed the icing on top of the cake by picking up a significant rivalry win on the road.
 
"This is a great win for the team," Herring II said. "We didn't have the best record against them recently, so this is one for our seniors. They never won here and it means a lot to all of these guys, even me being new to the team. I learned very quickly about the history of this series.
 
"We were pumped up for the game," Herring II continued. "But we stayed true to the game plan and it worked out for us. We stuck to it and pulled away as we anticipated when we play our game."
 
An uncharacteristic 1-of-9 mark from three-point range in the first half didn't set the Rangers back. Drew took a 35-26 lead into the locker rooms with Herring II leading the way with nine points (4-of-9 shooting) and seven rebounds, while Yucetepe had eight points and four boards.
 
The first points of the second half were two of the loudest of the evening as junior forward Jason Huelbig threw down a contested dunk and the Rangers took a 37-26 lead. The booming dunk spurred a 13-2 run to start the second half as Drew extended its lead to double-digits and eventually by 21 points midway through the second half.
 
Herring II obtained his double-double with a bucket early in the second half and a couple of rebounds a few minutes later. It is his first double-double as a Ranger.
 
Klinger heated up in the second half after scoring five points on 2-of-5 shooting in the first. The junior captain followed up with 12 second-half points as the Rangers began to pull away. He was 4-of-5 on field goals and made three 3-pointers in the second half. With 975 career points, Klinger is 25 points away from joining the 1,000-Point Club.

Drew rebounded from a poor first-half three-point shooting percentage with a 6-of-8 mark in the second half to finish the contest shooting 41 percent from downtown. As a team, the Rangers shot .483 from the floor.
 
The Rangers enjoy a eight-day rest before returning to action on Wednesday, Dec. 17 at 7:00 p.m. against Widener University in the Baldwin Gymnasium.
