Ramapo Pulls Away From Montclair State in NJAC Action, 94-83

Montclair, NJ – Freshman Christopher Moseley (Fair Lawn, NJ / Fair Lawn) scored nine points along with seven rebounds leading six players in double figures as Ramapo College pulled away from Montclair State late in the second half for a 94-83 win on Saturday afternoon.

Freshman Thomas Bonacum (Fanwood, NJ / Scotch Plains-Fanwood) had a double-double off 11 points and 11 rebounds while freshman Ve'shawn Polite (Harlem, NY / Elmwood Park) added one of his own with 12 points and 12 boards as the Roadrunners (4-2, 2-2 NJAC) won their second straight.

Sophomore guard SHAUN RUSSELL had 17 points to lead Montclair State (3-4, 1-3 NJAC), which suffered its third straight loss.

Tied for the 10th time in the game at 65-65 with 11:49 remaining, Montclair State scored the next four points as freshman DEVYN RANSOM and Russell each connected giving the Red Hawks the four-point advantage.  Ramapo countered with a 10-point run, including the go-ahead three-pointer by Moseley for a 70-69 lead with 10:32 to play.

Josh Ford (Fort Lee, NJ / Fort Lee) followed with a layup and then hit one free throw on a technical foul before Bonacum's two foul shots with 8:56 to go made the score 75-69. Montclair's MARCUS FULMORE ended the spurt with a layup however James Long (Matawan, NJ / St. Joseph's (Metuchen)) and Ford countered with layups putting Ramapo up 79-71.

Two free throws by MSU's JAMES D'ANGELO got the Red Hawks within 81-75 with 6:13 left however Polite scored three straight and Long the last four in a seven-point run as Ramapo grew its lead to 88-75 with 3:06 remaining.

Frank Nock (Bridgeton, NJ / Bridgeton) had 10 points in the first half as Ramapo used a late push in the first half to take a three-point lead at the break. Tied at 39-39, Ramapo scored seven of the next eight points, including a three-point play by Moseley for a 44-40 lead with 2:38 remaining.

Hilton's three-pointer got MSU within 46-43 with 72 seconds to go before half however Moseley hit from short range helping he visitors to a 48-45 lead at halftime.

Long posted final totals of 14 points, five rebounds and three assists while shooting 8-of-8 from the line as Ramapo hit on 28-of-36 attempts at the charity strip. The Roadrunners, who shot 45 percent from the field, got 11 points each from Ford and Jermaine Peart (Paterson, NJ / Paterson Catholic).

JEROME HILTON had 14 points for Montclair State, which got nine points apiece from KEVIN MCGORRY, Jarett Bogus and ERICK LOFTEN-HARRIS. McGorry had four blocks and tied for team honors for rebounds along with Bogus as each grabbed six. The Red Hawks actually held the advantage at the line taking 43 attempts, making 31 (72 percent).

The teams combined for 79 free attempts in the game that featured 59 fouls.

Montclair State returns to action on Wednesday, December 10 as it travels to Wayne, NJ to face local rival William Paterson in an NJAC matchup at 8:00 pm. Ramapo is home the same evening hosting New Jersey City University also at 8:00 pm.
