After trailing by five at halftime, 34-29, Covenant came back in the second half thanks to 10 points in the period from Boyd. The two teams went back-and-forth for much of the half until Covenant took a 61-58 lead on a layup from Sears with 2:28 remaining.

Millsaps rallied with baskets from Mac McElveen and Dustin Aubert to grab a 62-61 lead with 1:29 left. McGriff gave the Scots a 65-63 lead with a basket on Covenant's first possession of the period and Sears added a layup with 4:02 remaining for a 67-65 lead. Millsaps would score the final eight points of the overtime as Covenant turned the ball over on four straight possessions late in the overtime session.
