Dover, Del. – Marymount remained unmarred on Wednesday night, scuttling past CAC foe Wesley, 62-57, in the midweek showdown. Reigning CAC Player of the Week Jesse Konadu lived up to the distinction with his game-high 19 points – an apt follow-up to his 20 and 22-point performances last week.
The Saints improve to an unblemished 6-0 on the season, while the win earns them a 2-0 mark in league play.
The lead changed hands 13 times over the course of the night – a direct result of the persistent shot-for-shot battle.
Wesley maintained a rather dismal lead for the majority of the first half, leading by only five at its most potent.
The Saints did eclipse the deficit and retake the lead ever-so-briefly, before containing the Wolverine attack and holding the margin to a miniscule 25-24 heading into the break.
It took just over three minutes for either team to solve the hoop in the second half. When JC Hoellich finally broke the scoreless drought with a layup, the lead changes were only just beginning.
The next five minutes alone saw seven lead changes, with Marymount eventually using a 7-0 run to stretch the advantage to 46-38 with 9:33 left to play.
Konadu later extended that lead to ten, 52-42, with a pair of free throws at the 6:58 mark.
The Saints maintained momentum for the game's remaining ticks; Wesley inched within four points, but with only 20 seconds remaining, had no chance to mount any revolt.
Hoellich collected 12 points and ten rebounds for his second double-double of the season, while Michael Anderson also drained 16 points in the effort.
Marymount returns to Arlington, Va., on Saturday when it hosts St. Mary's (Md.) in league action. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
