Potsdam, NY – Host Clarkson University shot 50 percent or better from both the field and three-point line en route to an 81-58 victory against the SUNY Canton men's basketball team on Thursday evening in Alumni Gymnasium.
The Golden Knights (3-0) shot 53 percent from the field and drained 12 baskets from long distance in the contest. After trailing 7-0 early the Roos (1-2) used a 7-2 run to get within 9-7. Romario Fletcher (Queens, NY) scored twice in the paint for SUNY Canton on the run.
Clarkson opened its largest lead of the opening half at 31-19 with 5:26 remaining after a Charles McAllister lay-in. The Roos used a 6-0 run that included a free throw from Sam Annorh (Queens, NY), three-pointer from Walt Jeter (Fort Drum, NY) and basket in the paint from Rashad Richardson (Rochester, NY) to get within striking distance at 31-25. The Golden Knights held SUNY Canton scoreless the final 3:43 to take a 34-25 lead into intermission.
The Knights used a strong second half including hitting eight threes in the second stanza to open up their largest lead of the game with just over four minutes remaining. The Roos held Clarkson scoreless down the stretch as the Knights held on for the 81-58 victory.
Fletcher led SUNY Canton with 14 points and eight rebounds, while Khalil Bratton (Queens, NY) and Tyler Ellison (New York, NY) posted 10 points apiece.
