COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Tyler Jonas scored 14 of his career-high 16 points in the second half to lead Colorado College to a 70-61 victory over the University of Northwestern in the second game of the 2014 CC Thanksgiving Invitational on Friday night at Reid Gymnasium.
Jonas, a junior forward, made all five of his field-goal attempts in the second half, including three from behind the arc which allowed the Tigers to hold off the red-hot Eagles.
Junior guard Michael Carney poured in a game-high 22 points for Northwestern, which knocked down 13 of its 29 shots from three-point range.
Carney made eight of 15 shots from the floor and went 6-for12 from long distance.
Senior forward Chris Lesnansky scored 16 points for CC, including two on a drive to the bucket that ignited a 7-0 with the game tied at 50.
On the very next possession, Lesnansky drew on charge on Northwestern junior forward Daniel Petkau that led to a three-pointer by senior guard Ryan Kell.
After the Eagles pulled to within 57-52 on a pair of free throws by junior forward Caleb Janson, Colorado College used an 11-5 run to build an 11-point lead with just 2:17 remaining.
Sophomore forward Mitch Carter added 11 points for the Tigers, who squared their season record at 3-3.
The CC scored 17 points off of a season-high 19 turnovers to counter Northwestern's three-point barrage. The Tigers also got 24 points from its bench, compared to 12 for the Eagles.
In the first game of the tournament, Andre Norris scored 20 points, grabbed nine rebounds and dished out four assists to lead the University of Dubuque to an 83-60 victory over Willamette University.
Brandon Luedtke paced the Bearcats with a game-high 23 points and 12 rebounds.
Colorado College faces Dubuque in Saturday's championship game, which tips off at 7 p.m.
Northwestern (1-4) and Willamette (1-4) play in the third-place game at 5 p.m.
