Cabrini Stumbles vs. No. 7 Dickinson in Coaches vs. Cancer Finale

RADNOR, Pa. – For the second consecutive game, the Cavaliers' defensive struggles put them in an insurmountable hole.  On Tuesday, it was Scranton, tonight it was the No. 7 Dickinson Red Devils who connected on seven first half three pointers en route to a 95-81 victory at Nerney Field House in the final game of today's Coaches vs. Cancer Classic.

With the loss, the No. 18 Cavaliers fall to 3-3 on the season, while Dickinson improves to 4-1.  Today's loss also marks the Blue and White's first nonconference home loss since a 101-92 loss to Lebanon Valley College on December 6, 2008.

In a battle of D3hoops.com Preseason First Team All-American's, both Cabrini senior Aaron Walton-Moss and Dickinson senior Gerry Wixted filled the stat sheet. Walton-Moss finished with 30 points, 12 rebounds, five assists, four steals and four blocked shots.  Wixted led the Red Devils with 29 points, 11 rebounds, five assists and five blocks.

Fellow senior Vinny Walls added 20 points for the Blue and White, while freshman Tyheim Monroe tallied 10 points off the bench.

Junior Brandon Angradi added 23 points, including 6-11 from three point range for Dickinson, while senior Chris Cox recorded 13 points and six boards.

While Cabrini struggled to find its offensive rhythm, the Red Devils took full advantage, building a 22-4 lead just under seven minutes into the game.  

The Cavaliers chipped away at the lead, coming within nine points on several occasions late in the half.  A Walton-Moss lay-up cut the lead to 45-36 at the half.

Despite shooting just 35% from the field, including 2-10 from three point range, Cabrini remained in striking distance.

Dickinson hit four of its first five shots to open the second half and just over two minutes into the half, Cabrini found itself down 18 again.

The deficit grew to 19 with 12:29 to play before a 10-0 Blue and White spurt cut it to 70-61 with 10:45 on the clock.  Unfortunately, Cabrini would get no closer.  The Cavaliers came within 10 points five times in the final
10 minutes but Dickinson had an answer on each occasion.

While the Blue and White improved its field goal percentage to 45.7% in the second half, it couldn't slow the hot shooting Red Devils, who connected on 18-32, including 5-10 from three point range in the second half.

Dickinson also connected on 9-9 from the free throw line to secure the victory.

Cabrini will open Colonial States Athletic Conference play on Wednesday, as it welcomes Neumann to Nerney Field House.  Tipoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

The Knights improved to 4-2 in today's second game with a convincing 88-57 win over Penn State Abington (0-4).  Sophomore Tyreek Riddick connected on 10-13 from three point range to lead the Knights with 34 points.  Fellow sophomore DeShawn Lowman paired 15 points, 11 rebounds and seven assist in the victory.

Sophomore Dequan Jackson led the Lions with 22 points, converting 10-16 from the free throw line.  Junior Devin Jones added 12 points, eight rebounds, three steals and three blocked shots in the loss.

In the day's first game, Rowan University (4-1) shot a blistering 65.5% from the floor in the first half, en route to an 80-71 win over Rosemont (2-4).  Four Profs scored in double figures, led by junior Ike Robinson's 19 points and nine rebounds. Senior Mike Robinson added 18 points and junior Chris Gross 15.

Sophomore Kyle Lafferty led the ravens with 18 points, five assists and five steals in a losing effort.  Senior Nadir Stukes paired 10 points and five assists, while sophomore Khai Roberts tallied 10 points and seven boards.
